Air France to Bangkok

by admin on December 14, 2008

Been in Bangkok a few days now and finally feel able to write and think coherently. 12 hour flights in cattle class plus the sudden exposure to high temperature and humidity (plus cheap, cold beer) lead to a definite mushiness of thinking.

The flight with Air France was ok except that my in-seat video screen was wonky. It only showed about two thirds of the picture and all the colours were inverted so the images were a kind of monochrome plus weird colour tint. I showed the steward and his response was to shrug in a French way and say, “It is broken” – merci, mon ami, merci.

I watched ‘In Bruges’ and the crazy colours actually added to the atmosphere of the city shots. Didn’t do anything about the storyline which went awol towards the end though. I also watched an American film called ‘Pineapple Express’. It was the worst piece of crap I’ve seen in a long time. Utterly wretched from start to finish, so bad it was compelling and I sat and watched the whole ting – and felt ashamed of myself afterwards for not leaving the aircraft or at least switching it off. Unbelievably, I read later that it’s been nominated for a Golden Globe. I didn’t know there was an utterly crap category.

It's Christmas in Bangkok
